Log P (Octanol/Water)
The Octanol/Water Partition coefficient describes the proportion of the concentration in octanol and in water of the substance if the substance is dissolved in a mixture of these two liquids. The log P values is also known as a measure of lipophilicity.
Usually the logarithm of this coefficient is used: Log P (octanol/water). In a formula:
The Octanol/Water Partition coefficient is used for the assessment of the level of harmfulness of the substance in the environment. The higher the value, the higher the chance that the substance accumulates in biological materials (mostly fats), especially when values surpasses 3.
